Bible Study: Repentance

1- THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL IS BASED ON REPENTANCE

Matthew 3:7,8/ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance. Luke 3:3/ And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Revelation 3:3/ Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

2- THE GOODNESS OF GOD LEADS US TO REPENTANCE.

Romans 2:4/ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

3- WHEN WE DO NOT REPENT, WE TREASURE WRATH AGAINST OURSELVES.

Romans 2:5/ But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.

4- NINEVEH REPENTED; THEREFORE GOD FORGAVE THEM.

Luke 11:32/ The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

5- WE MUST REPENT OF IDOLATRY.

Jeremiah 10:14/ Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

6- WHEN NOT IN THE TRUTH, THE PROCESS OF TRUE REPENTANCE CANNOT TAKE PLACE.

2 Timothy 2:5/ And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

7- WE MUST BEAR FRUITS OF REPENTANCE.

Acts 26:20/ But showed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and return to God, and do works meet for repentance.

8- FRUITS OF REPENTANCE.

1 John 2:15-17/ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16- For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17- And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

9- STOP SINNING.

1 John 2:4/ He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

10- WALK IN THE LIGHT.

1 John 1:7/ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

11- FOLLOW THE WAY OF CHRIST. John 14:6/ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

12- KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS.

1 John 2:4 (repeated) Romans 2:13/ For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. John 14:15/ If ye love me, keep my commandments.

13- BE MEEK AND HUMBLE.

Matthew 11:29/ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

14- BE LOVING.

1 John 4:8/ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

15- NOT PARTAKING IN IDOLATRY. Revelation 21:8/ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

16- CONFESS JESUS BEFORE MEN.

Romans 10:9/ That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

17- DRESS MODESTLY.

1 Peter 3:3,4/ Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4- But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

1 Timothy 2:9/ In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.

18- NOT RENDERING EVIL FOR EVIL.

1 Peter 3:9/ Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

19- THE LORD WILL COME TO EXECUTE JUDGMENT.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9/ And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8- In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9- Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.

Stephen's Death

Understanding Matthew 16:25 In the King James Version of the Bible, Matthew 16:25 beautifully encapsulates a powerful spiritual paradox: "For whoever seeks to save their life will lose it; but whoever loses their life for my sake will find it." It's a thought-provoking reminder that sometimes, in the quest for self-preservation and comfort, we might actually miss out on the deeper, more profound life that comes from surrendering ourselves for a greater purpose. The Heartwrenching Death of Stephen Now, if we shift gears a bit and dive into Acts 7:58-60, we find ourselves facing one of the most intense moments in the early Christian church – the execution of Stephen. Stephen wasn’t just your average believer; he was one of the very first deacons appointed to help with the needs of the early church. People recognized him for his incredible faith, wisdom, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in his life. Unfortunately, this great calling came at a high price. God's Hol...
