The Crown I Let Fall
Poem by Ralph Gilbert De Jesus
✝️,
Oh Lord, my God, Redeemer true,
You saved me with love, made all things new.
From sin’s deep pit, You pulled me high,
And placed me in Your church to try—
To walk the path, to seek the goal,
To guard the gift: my trembling soul.
You breathed Your Spirit into me,
A whisper: Hold your crown faithfully.
You gave me voice, the teacher’s flame,
To speak of mercy in Your name.
Freed from the law, no longer bound,
In grace and truth, my heart was found.
But prayer grew faint, and pride grew loud,
I let the spirit of error shroud
The vows I made, the light I knew—
I turned from You, from all that’s true.
I left the church, the sacred host,
Forsook salvation, Holy Ghost.
Now here I stand, a son astray,
Back under law, I’ve lost my way.
Yet still I hope, though I am torn,
That grace may rise like light at morn.
For You, O Lord, are mercy’s sea—
And I,
a soul who longs to be free.
