A Year of Renewal: Becoming a New Creation in Christ

To fully embrace the arrival of the New Year, it is essential to step into a new life. Indeed, as the adage goes, “the path of the sinner is difficult,” and “there is no peace for the wicked.” This reminds us that in order to truly enter into a new season, we must undergo a profound transformation—one that allows us to become a new person as we usher in the New Year. The very essence of the word “new” speaks to the idea of something that has not been utilized or experienced before.

THE NEW MAN

The foundational principle is articulated in Genesis 1:27, which tells us that “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Adam, the first man, represented a groundbreaking creation; similarly, we must strive to become transformed individuals. This transformation calls us to evolve into a new being “by the renovation of our minds.” As we align ourselves according to the image of the original Adam, we are invited to live lives modeled after and in communion with Christ.

NEW YEAR

In divine terms, the New Year begins on the first day of the new moon, specifically in the month of October. However, for each individual, the New Year marks the moment when one decides to transition from being a natural man to becoming a spiritual being—replicating the new image of Christ. This pivotal change is not merely a seasonal event but a deep, personal rebirth.

NEW BIRTH

Ezekiel 36:26 provides a powerful promise, stating, “A new heart will I also give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: I will take the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.” This new heart symbolizes the very core of our transformation, representing the governing power of our lives, while our spirit symbolizes the invisible influence that steers our actions and thoughts.

To truly experience a New Year, the old self must be transformed and align with the new self, thereby facilitating the arrival of a new chapter in life. As articulated in John 3:5, “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” This rebirth encompasses both the baptism of water through immersion and the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire. A genuine New Year, then, is synonymous with a new birth, a new heart, and a new spirit—a journey that requires the indwelling of Christ’s spirit for us to truly belong to Him.

NEW CREATURE

In Christ, we are invited to experience a complete renewal of life. The Apostle Paul eloquently conveyed this in his letter to the Corinthians: “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This passage reaffirms the transformative power of being in Christ, where the old is left behind, making space for all that is new.

NEW MAN

Additionally, Ephesians 2:5-6 reminds us of the grace and lifeblood that flow through us: “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved); and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” This elevation to heavenly realms emphasizes our new existence, grounded in Christ’s righteousness.

NEW NAME

Furthermore, Revelation 3:12 promises a profound transformation of identity for those who overcome: “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” This blessing of a new name reflects our renewed identity in Christ and our standing in the eternal city of God.

As we embark on this New Year, it is vital to embrace a new life—a life that mirrors Christ’s teachings and character. Saint Paul encourages the faithful in Hebrews 12:22-23, affirming that we have approached “mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem.” Here, we find an invitation to gather with an innumerable company of angels and join the assembly of the faithful, which ultimately serves to define what our efforts should aspire to: a new year filled with new birth, a new spirit, a new creature, and a triumphant heart, destined to join with Jesus Christ in heavenly places.

Awake, awake, Church

Now is the time to acknowledge the abundant grace bestowed upon us. Let us take a moment to reflect on our current paths and ensure we are walking steadfastly in Jesus’ footsteps. We must reinforce the roots of our faith through an unwavering love for His doctrine and an obedient commitment to His Word. As we seek divine guidance, let this be our heartfelt prayer: “Oh God! Our God, guide us!”

Stephen's Death

Understanding Matthew 16:25 In the King James Version of the Bible, Matthew 16:25 beautifully encapsulates a powerful spiritual paradox: "For whoever seeks to save their life will lose it; but whoever loses their life for my sake will find it." It's a thought-provoking reminder that sometimes, in the quest for self-preservation and comfort, we might actually miss out on the deeper, more profound life that comes from surrendering ourselves for a greater purpose. The Heartwrenching Death of Stephen Now, if we shift gears a bit and dive into Acts 7:58-60, we find ourselves facing one of the most intense moments in the early Christian church – the execution of Stephen. Stephen wasn’t just your average believer; he was one of the very first deacons appointed to help with the needs of the early church. People recognized him for his incredible faith, wisdom, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in his life. Unfortunately, this great calling came at a high price. God's Hol...
